The shelves are stocked and organised, ready & streamlined for buying more loose or bulk buy ingredients without plastic packaging. My cupboards are also getting a plastic detox where smaller jars & containers will be ready for refilling rather than continually buying small packets, reducing a huge amount of plastic uselessness going to landfill. Organising your kitchen space is the key to reducing your plastic consumption ๐Ÿ”‘ ๐ŸŒ Also finally acting upon what I know I should be doing was also quite essential to the process!! Those shelves were sitting in the hallway for years with my good intentions blocked, by me! ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜ฌ
Finally have my shelves up that I made 4 years ago!!!! Just had 2 more to finish polishing and to buy the brackets but had left them lying in the hallway for 4 years instead.. but yay, they are up!! Made from old scaffolding boards, a sander, shellac and french polish. Now to fill them up with healthy yummy ingredients!!! ๐Ÿ’š #shelves #rusticshelves #woodworking #reclaimedwood #scaffoldboardfurniture #scaffoldboardshelves #diy #kitchendesign #kitchendecor #rustickitchen
More adventures with unripened green tomatoes ... this time good old fashioned chutney. Made with onion, green tomatoes, a few red ones too, apple cider vinegar, coconut sugar, dates, mustard seeds, chilli, salt... About 2 hours simmering to get nice and thick! Will write up the recipe soon and put on the website, link in bio๐Ÿ‘† #greentomatoes #chutney #cidervinegar #wholefoods #homegrownfood #homegrowntomatoes #harvestcooking #seasonaleating #foodpreservation #preservingtheharvest #vegetarian #vegan #plantbased #plantbasedfood #chef #kitchengarden #tomatoes
Old school veggie cooking! Making this recipe really took me back to the early days of being a veggie and reminded me of some of the old school cookbooks before plant based cooking really diversified in the way it has today. Sometimes basic โ€˜old schoolโ€™ wholefood cooking is the best! This simple green tomato & lentil soup is one way of using up all your unripened green tomatoes at the end of harvest season. The tomatoes have a very tart flavour so I added some red pepper to sweeten it up along with onion, celery, garlic, bay leaves, stock, thyme, paprika, green lentils & fresh basil. Back to basics, no frills, wholesome, satisfying, homely nourishment. #wholefoods #healthyingredients #greentomatoes #greentomatosoup #harvestfeast #homegrowntomatoes #vegan #vegetarian #soup #plantbased #wholesome #nourishment #oldschoolvegetarian
End of season harvest.. lots of green unripe tomatoes to play with ๐Ÿต๐Ÿ’š #homegrownfood #greentomatoes #harvest #kitchengarden #homegrowntomatoes #homegrownvegetables #endofseasonharvest
The winter food hoarding has begun! Ok, Iโ€™m always a food hoarder no matter what the season, and like to keep fully stocked cupboards of all my tinned and dried stuff, I guess itโ€™s habit from when I ran cafes, but I give myself extra brownie points for not letting things rot in the back of the cupboard (like young me used to!) pretty much everything gets used or passed along. Iโ€™m super organised with my stash. Iโ€™m also so grateful for being able to have a lot of cupboards full of healthy food ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป Once upon a time I could only manage โ€˜pay as you goโ€™ eating and used to dream of being able to lessen my food bills in the long run by buying bulk/wholesale priced food. So I do not take my abundance of healthy food for granted ๐Ÿ’š And Iโ€™m happy to be able to support low impact local suppliers and co-operatives rather than junk food providers and multi national corporations ๐Ÿ‘ One way to make it easier to buy wholesale is to collaborate with others, start your own little shopping co-op.. this is just half a stash that I shared with someone else, plus will be having more people come in on each future order so that we can buy big bags of nuts and weigh them out between us. Bonus = less plastic waste!!! Now I just need to finally get my extra shelves up before putting in another couple of big orders over the next weeks! If anyone gets snowed in in my area then you know where to come for supplies ๐Ÿ˜ฌ #shoplocal #supportlocalbusiness #organicfood #organic #wholefoods #workerscooperative #cooperative #cooperativeeconomics #healthyingredients #stockingupforwinter #foodhoarder
