When it comes to smoothies, I’m usually a chuck it all in the blender kind of girl, without putting too much thought into how it looks or tastes, instead focusing on what nutrients I want in my body that day.
But the selection of fruit I had on hand this morning were the ones that I like to enjoy in their own right, it seemed wrong to smush them all up and lose their beauty in a smoothie, I felt like a fruit murderer!!
Also, as much as the world could do with a regular smoothie, it is beneficial to chew & digest fruits slowly and in their whole form… so today I went for the smoothie bowl so that I could better appreciate each little morsel.
I’m so glad I did, it was heavenly!
The smoothie base tasted just like a silky banana custard pudding. I really appreciated the individual tastes and textures from all the toppings, taking my tastebuds & senses on a little journey as I worked my way through the bowl, rather than the one big lump of flavour that I would have experienced had I just blended it all together.
This recipe is very easy to throw together and within minutes you can be kicking back, feasting, and polishing that shine of yours. Let there be light!
Ingredients for 1 bowl
- 1 banana
- 1/2 cup frozen mango (or fresh)
- 1/3 cup oats
- 30ml almond milk (or other plant milk, or water)
Blend the above ingredients on high speed until completely silky smooth.
Place in a bowl and top with:
- 1 fresh fig – sliced
- A handful of coconut chips
- Pulp of 1 passion fruit
- 6 frozen raspberries
- 2 physalis berries
- 1 tbsp hemp seed hearts (unshelled seeds)
- 2 tsp chia seeds
Now let that little light of yours shine and sprinkle that stuff everywhere.
